Arul back to a freezing County Ground

Arul Suppiah exchanged the hot sunshine of India for the freezing temperatures of Tauntonwhen he returned to training with his Somerset colleagues at the County Ground after spending 10 days at a spin clinic in Pune.

The 28 year old all rounder said: “It’s good to be back training with all the boys again, even though I have to say it is pretty cold back here compared to the sunshine in India!”

Reflecting on his time at the Global Cricket Academy he said: “It all went pretty well for me and I got some good time solid batting. Every day I had three to four hours of batting in two sessions, on wickets that were spinning quite a lot.”

“The spin bowlers in the nets were pretty good so I was just trying to put into practice things on grass that I have been working on back here in the Indoor School. It was very good work out and I tested myself to see where I am and I’ve got a better understanding of things now.”

Arul went on: “As an opener in championship cricket I tend not to face much spin, so I worked hard on playing against it in one day cricket. There is now a lot of spin bowling on one day and Twenty 20 cricket.”

“I just want to give myself more options and more scoring opportunities and try to force my way up the order as well.”

“Even though I was only away for a short while it was pretty good to get outside playing on grass in the sun.”

Looking ahead to the new campaign Arul said: “We are not far off starting our pre-season programme now, less than six weeks away in fact, so everybody is working hard and starting to gear up, so it was good to be back and we are all looking forward to the first game.”
