Local Council back Old Pavilion Project
Plans to bring international cricket to the County Ground took another step closer to reality after the Community Scrutiny Committee of Taunton Deane Borough Council gave their backing to a £1million loan to support the development and rebuilding of the Old Pavilion.
Over the last six months Somerset County Cricket Club has been working closely with T.D.B.C. and at a meeting on Tuesday evening the scheme was overwhelmingly supported by local Councillors.
Talking at the County Ground, the Club’s Chief Executive Guy Lavender said: “I was delighted that the Scrutiny Committee decided to recommend our proposal and it will now go to Taunton Deane’s full Council for final approval in early December. This is exceptionally good news and the Council’s assistance will be critical in helping us to achieve our objective of bringing international cricket to the County Ground.”
“The proposal was unanimously recommended by the Scrutiny Committee with Councillors recognising the outstanding progress that we have made in developing the ground which is a critical component of making sure we have a vibrant and successful town.”
The Chief Executive paid tribute to TDBC for the support they have given to the redevelopment of the County Ground as part of Project Taunton.
“We have had a brilliant relationship with the Council over the last 10 years, where they have helped us every step of the way. Their assistance will enable us to achieve the final phase of our plans ensuring that the Club can thrive long into the future.”
