Trego, Kirby and Jamie Overton all in squad
Both Pete Trego and Steve Kirby travelled with Somerset to Trent Bridge earlier today ahead of their Yorkshire Bank 40 semi final match against Nottinghamshire that starts at 4.10 pm on Monday.
‘Tregs’ and ‘Kirbs’ have been missing from the scene for a couple of weeks because of injury, but both were training on Friday out on the pitch and the Somerset camp are optimistic that they will be ready to play in Monday’s big match.
There was further good news for Somerset later on Sunday evening when Jamie Overton was released by the England camp to join the squad for the game.
Looking ahead to tomorrow Marcus Trescothick said: “I won’t have to say a lot to the boys going into the game because they will all be up and ready for it.Obviously they will be disappointed by the Derbyshire result but they took that on the chin and now they are back ready and up for a big game.
“Trent Bridge is always a nice place to play and there will be a big crowd and it will be under lights and a televised game, so the boys will be ready for it.
“Nottinghamshire are a very good side and it all depends how you turn up on the day. We have to make sure that we turn up with the attitude and the application that we need to beat them, because if we don’t they have got some quality players who will turn us over.”
Nick Compton said: “Of course we are going to have to play out of our skins because Nottinghamshire are a very competitive side, but we have played some good one day cricket this season.
“We have played them a few times there and it’s a good fair wicket and I think with the batting line up we have got, and the way that Craig Kieswetter and Pete Trego are playing bodes very well for us.
Looking forward head coach Andy Hurry: “All of the games that we have played in recently have been cup finals for us, but there is a lot of emphasis on Monday’s semi final at Trent Bridge.
“They are a very competitive side and we have had some great games with them in the past up at Trent Bridge so it will be a very exciting game of cricket. Any team that gets the chance to go to Lord’s to play in a final is going to be excited and we are all champing at the bit at the potential opportunity for us. However there is a big hurdle for us to get over first and that’s against Notts who are a very good side.”
Andy added: “We had a remarkable game of cricket in the quarter finals of the T20 a couple of years ago when we came from behind and they are the sorts of games we can have with Notts, because we had a semi final game with them down at the Rose Bowl that could have gone either way that we won right at the end, so it will be a very tight game.”
Pete Trego and Steve Kirby along with Jamie Overton are all included in the squad , for Monday’s game, but Jos Buttler is still with England and is unable to play.
Somerset will pick their final line up for the Nottinghamshire match from the following squad of 13- Marcus Trescothick, Alex Barrow, Piyush Chawla, Nick Compton, Lewis Gregory, James Hildreth, Chris Jones, Craig Kieswetter, Steve Kirby, Craig Meschede, Jamie Overton, Alfonso Thomas, Pete Trego and Max Waller.
