Somerset mourning Brian Roe

Somerset are mourning the loss of Brian ‘Chico’ Roe who died on Friday night in Barnstaple after a short illness at the age of 75.

 

Brian was a right handed opening batsman who between 1957 and 1966 played in 131 first class matches for Somerset in which he scored 4859 runs at an average of 22.39.

 

He hit four centuries with his career best coming in 1962 when he hit 128 against Essex at Brentwood.

 

He topped 1000 first class runs in a season on three occasions, his best being in 1962 when he scored 1552.

 

Later Brian went to open the innings for Devon in the Minor Counties and continued to play club cricket in North Devon as recently as last season.

 

The funeral service for Brian Roe will be held on Friday July 11th at Barnstaple Crematorium at 11.40am.
