Ben impresses for England
Somerset Academy player Ben Green hit the winning runs to see England Under 19s to a last over victory in their opening ODI against Australia earlier this week.
After choosing to bat first the hosts were bowled out for 219 in 48.4 overs, Ben taking 1 for 27 from his 6.4 overs.
Chasing 220 for victory the 17 year old all rounder, who was batting at number seven remained unbeaten on 20 off 12 balls which included two 4s to see England to victory by two wickets with three balls remaining.
With three overs to go England needed 18 off as many balls which had reduced to 4 off the final over.
Ben took 2 off the second delivery and then hit the third ball to the boundary to give England victory.
England didn’t fare so well in the second ODI on Wednesday which they lost by 8 wickets.
Batting first England were bowled out for 109 in 45.2 overs, Ben facing six balls before he was out for no score.
In reply Australia scored 112 for 2 off 25.3 overs.
The next match between the two sides in the five match series is on Saturday April 18th.
