Archie Dunning set for Second XI debut
Somerset Under 17 bowler Archie Dunning spent Monday morning at the County Ground bowling at the first team squad in the nets, and on Tuesday will make his debut for the Second XI in their one day match against Exeter University that starts at 11am at Exeter CC.
Dunning is a right arm fast bowler who lives at Pilton and has grown up playing through the county age group system. He attends Millfield School and is part of the Somerset Emerging Player Programme where he has been working with Ben Phillips.
Talking about his experience of bowling at the Somerset players Archie Dunning said: “It has been really great for me to get the chance to come down and bowl at the Somerset professionals.
“It has given me the flavour of what it is like to be a professional cricket and play for Somerset, which is what I want to try to do. Bowling at batsmen who have played international cricket is a real challenge and makes you want to try to improve.”
Talking about his Second XI debut at Exeter in the morning Archie said: “Im really looking forward to it and I think that playing at the next level up will make me want to work even harder and challenge myself more.”
Looking ahead to the game at Exeter the Second XI coach Steve Snell said: “We had a good run out against Worcestershire last week and now we are looking forward to the game against Exeter University.
“This game certainly provides an opportunity for the guys who haven’t been selected in the first team warm up against Lancashire to come along and show what they can do against Exeter Uni.
“It’s a local derby really and we will have Tom Abell who is at Exeter Uni himself, playing against us that will add some real value into it. The game will also give Tom a chance to make his case for his inclusion in the first team.”
Talking about Archie Dunning the Second XI Coach and Academy Director said: “ I have got Archie involved here today and with the Seconds because we are really pleased with the progress he has made over the winter where he has been working on our Emerging Player Fast Bowling Programme with Ben Phillips.
“The clear talent, his diligence and hard work he has put in make him someone who is very exciting for the future so this is a perfect game to blood him at the next level and it will be great for me to see what he can do in a match situation.”
The Somerset squad is- George Bartlett, Josh Davey, George Dockrell, Archie Dunning, Calvin Harrison, Jack Leach, Liam Redrup, James Regan, Ollie Sale, Sam Underdown, Max Waller and Sam Wyatt-Haines.
