Catering Manager completes running challenge
Somerset County Cricket Club’s Catering General Manager Sam Safe completed the Taunton Half Marathon on Sunday and at the same time helped to raise an impressive amount of money for a charity that is very close to her heart.
Last year Sam’s husband Simon, who is also the Club’s Executive Chef, was diagnosed with Leukemia and required a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully the transplant was successful and Simon has now returned to work.
Anthony Nolan match people willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people with blood cancer and blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants and, having seen at first hand the work that they carry out, Sam and her daughter Amy got their running shoes on in order to help raise funds for the charity.
Sam said: “We had hoped to raise £1000 but everyone has been really generous and to date we have raised £2500! We can’t thank people enough for their generosity. The support we’ve had from friends, family, Members of the Club and everyone has been just amazing. Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored us. Sunday was a very emotional day for all of us but it was extremely worthwhile as the money raised will go to help save lives. Simon is living proof that this works.”
