Cricket on the Green a big success
Somerset County Cricket Club took over the Castle Green area in Taunton today (Saturday) to deliver “Cricket on the Green”.
A cricket net was put up on the grassed area and visitors of all ages were able to test their cricketing skills against Club captain Marcus Trescothick and our mascot Stumpy. Members of our Commercial Team were also on hand with give-aways, competitions and prizes.
Marcus also spent the day signing autographs, posing for photographs and offering advice to budding young cricketers.
As well as the cricket based entertainment, members of our Catering Team also used the event as a recruitment drive whilst BBC Somerset broadcast live from the event.
Spencer Bishop from the Commercial Team organised the event and was delighted by how well it was received. “It’s something we’ve been looking at doing for awhile now and I’m really pleased that it has come to fruition,” he said. “It went really well and it was great to see so many children and families come along and get involved.
“Thanks has to go to the Council for allowing us to stage the event, our coach and staff for giving their time to support the day and of course to Marcus and Stumpy who were outstanding today. Most of all though I would like to thank everyone who came along to Castle Green.”
Spencer went on to say: “Events like this are a major part of what this Club is about. We love putting on days like this. To see the smiles on the children’s faces is what it’s all about. Hopefully we can do this again next year”
