Big win for Somerset 2nd XI
Somerset 2nd XI secured an impressive win over their Hampshire counterparts this morning (Wednesday) by an innings and 227 runs.
On day one Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat but the Somerset bowlers were on top from the off. Two early wickets apiece for Craig Overton and Josh Davey reduced the visitors to 66 for 4. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and Hampshire were eventually dismissed for 148. Davey finished with figures of 4 for 44 from 11.3 overs whilst Overton claimed 3 for 39 from 10 overs. Sam Wyatt-Haines also took two wickets.
In reply, 129 not out from Davey and 52 from Adam Hose ensured that Somerset finished the first day on top as they closed on 267 for 4, a lead of 119.
Somerset resumed on 267 for 4 on day two and by lunch 54 not out from Joel Harden had helped Somerset to reach 415 for 7 which was a lead of 267.
Following the lunch break Harden added another four to his score before he was dismissed but George Dockrell really took the attack to the visiting bowlers and made 132 from 93 balls to ensure that Somerset made 555 all out which was a first innings lead of 407.
The Somerset bowlers kept the home side on top once again during Hampshire’s second innings as two wickets apiece for Dockrell and Overton plus one for Ollie Sale reduced the visitors to 105 for 5 at the close of day two.
Hampshire began day three 302 in arrears of their hosts and the third days play followed the pattern of the previous two days as Somerset continued to turn the screw. Dockrell finished with 4 for 32 from 18.4 overs whilst Sale claimed 4 for 55 from 14 overs as Somerset wrapped up an impressive victory
