England women’s cricketers to inspire Somerset school pupils
England women’s cricketers Charlotte Edwards, Tammy Beaumont, Jenny Gunn and Lauren Winfield will visit Chance to Shine schools and cricket clubs across the centre of Taunton tomorrow (Tuesday) to inspire pupils to play cricket and encourage them to come along and watch the England team in action during the Women’s Ashes Royal London One-Day International match at the County Ground, Taunton on July 21.
The visit, which is part of the players’ role as Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassadors, will see the England women’s quartet deliver a Women’s Ashes themed day of cricket activities for school pupils and young county players, to help build excitement around this summer’s Royal London ODI between England women and Australia women in Taunton in July.
Speaking about the visit England women’s captain, Charlotte Edwards said: “I am really looking forward to visiting all of the Chance to Shine schools and cricket clubs in Taunton, and helping to inspire the pupils at each of them to choose cricket. In addition, it’s a perfect opportunity to spread the word in the local area about the Women’s Ashes Royal London ODI at the County Ground, Taunton on July 21. This summer we are aiming to win our third consecutive Women’s Ashes series against Australia, and we want all the support we can get. We love playing in front of big passionate crowds, so hopefully this will be the case in Taunton in July.
“My role as a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador is brilliant, as it allows me to combine playing international cricket with the opportunity to really make a difference at the grassroots of the game.”
During the morning, the England women’s players will deliver school-based activities at Long Sutton Primary School and Norton Hill Secondary School, before travelling to Bridgwater School to run an afternoon session at Haygrove School.
All four England women’s players will then help out at the under-15 Chance to Compete competition (involving Chilton Trinity School, the Castle School and Stanchester Academy) at Taunton St Andrews Cricket Club, before finishing the day with a masterclass session for Somerset county age-group girls squads at the Centre of Excellence in Taunton.
