Somerset Age Groups Maintain Winning Ways
Under 13′s win by 23 runs
Somerset Under 13’s captain Will Smeed won the toss and after opting to bat first went on to score his second century in successive weeks with an outstanding 106*.
During his innings the captain shared a 146 run third wicket partnership with Max Toohey who went to score highly intelligent 60* completing his maiden half century.
The partnership allowed Somerset to post 199 for two from their allotted 40 overs.
In reply Berkshire got off to a flyer and were 60 withtout loss after 13 overs due in some part to some wayward legside bowling.
However the introduction of the Somerset spinners in James Flatt, Max Toohey and Toby William Thomas enabled Somerset to regain control of the game in the second session.
Flatt bowled his legspinners in a miserly spell of 8-2-20-3 and was largely responsible for swinging the game in Somerset’s favour who were then able to maintain control and run out winners by 23 runs.
The Under 13’s next game will be this Sunday at North Curry CC v Dorset this Sunday 1pm start.
Under 11′s win by eight wickets
The Somerset Under 11′s entertained their Wiltshire counterparts at Keynsham CC on Wednesday at the end of which they ran out the winners by eight wickets.
After winning the toss and batting first Wiltshire were bowled out for 152, with the wickets being shared by all of the bowlers.
Somerset in replay reached 154 for two in 23 overs thanks to 40 from Ben Chaffey and half centuries from both George Thomas and Joe Eckland.
On Sunday the Under 11s play Dorset at Westlands CC in Yeovil.
