Somerset all set for Kent on Sunday
The County Ground is all set for Chris Gayle to make his home debut for Somerset when they host Kent in the NatWest T20 Blast on Sunday starting at 2.30pm.
Last night the big man silenced the home fans with six maximums at Chelmsford as Somerset pulled off a thrilling last ball victory over Essex, and everybody will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday.
Director of Cricket Matt Maynard said: “We were delighted to get over the line at Chelmsford last night, we have had two last ball games which is T20 cricket, but it was great to get our first win.
Looking ahead to Sunday the DOC said: “Kent are top of the table at the moment and are a dangerous side who are playing very well. The fact that they have got no overseas players means that there is no expectations on them apart from what they expect of themselves.
“They are a very young side who have got a lot of ability to play freely so we have got to be on the top of our game on Sunday. We have got to respect them and will have to play some good cricket to beat them.”
Matt talked about the presence of Chris Gayle in the team: “The three home games that Chris will be playing for us are all sold out which says it all. That’s the effect he has wherever he goes and he draws the crowds in. If he produces an innings like he did last night then everyone will be very happy!”
In addition to the XI that played at Chelmsford, both Tim Groenewald and Johann Myburgh have been added to the Somerset squad for Sunday which is – Alfonso Thomas (capt) Jim Allenby, Tom Cooper, Chris Gayle, Lewis Gregory, Tim Groenewald, James Hildreth, Johann Myburgh, Jamie Overton, Sohail Tanveer, Pete Trego, Marcus Trescothick and Max Waller.
Please note this fixture is now SOLD OUT and no further tickets will become available.
