Somerset Women open their season tomorrow
Somerset Women open their 2015 season with two matches over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Tomorrow (Sunday) they travel away to play Staffordshire in Division Two of the Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup before returning to Bath CC on Monday to host Ireland in the same competition, both games starting at 11am.
This will be the first game in charge for Steffan Jones, the former Somerset, Northants and Derbyshire player who is looking forward to Sunday’s fixture: “The team have trained hard over the winter,2 he said. “Even though I haven’t seen too much of them they have been working hard to get ready for this game. We have had one pre-season training session and I think that they look strong this year. This year we have got Liselle Lee, Gwen Davies and Nicole Richards from Cornwall so our batting is really strong.
“On the bowling front our captain Anya Shrubsole will lead the attack backed up by young Cassie Coombs so I think we will do well this season.”
Steffan added: “Our aim is to be promoted and nothing else so now it is up to the team to go out there and perform.”
Somerset have named the following squad of 12 for both of the games this coming weekend: Liselle Lee, Gwen Davies, Sophie Luff, Anya Shrubsole (capt),Nicole Richards, Lauren Shrubsole, Jackie Hawker, Beth Howe (wkt), Lorraine Szczepanski, Cassie Coombes, Jenny Withers and Emma Godman.
