Narrow defeats for Somerset 2nd XI
Somerset Second’s were in T20 action today (Monday) when they played two matches against their Sussex counterparts at Horsham.
Due to the weather the first match didn’t get underway until just before 2:30pm and was reduced to 5 overs per side. Somerset won the toss and skipper Max Waller elected to field. The Somerset captain took two wickets whilst there was a wicket each for Adam Dibble, George Dockrell and Josh Davey. An eventful five overs also saw Waller secure a run-out as Sussex finished on 51 for 6. Unfortunately for Somerset they fell short in their run chase as they finished on 47 for 4 from their five overs as the hosts won by just four runs.
The second match saw Somerset once again win the toss and put Sussex in. Four wickets for just 28 runs from Josh Davey helped to limit the hosts to 132 for 8 from their 20 overs. Jamie Overton claimed two for 15 from three overs whilst Dibble and Dockrell once again claimed one victim each. Unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals during the Somerset reply. Despite 21* from ten balls from Overton and 20 from ten balls from Michael Leask, Steve Snell’s men fell just short of their target as they were dismissed for 127 as Sussex triumphed by 5 runs.
The Somerset Second XI side for the T20 matches was: Alex Mellor, Adam Hose, Josh Davey, Michael Bates, Max Waller, Sam Wyatt-Haines, Michael Leask (a triallist from Scotland who bats and bowls off spin), Adam Dibble, George Dockrell and Jamie Overton.
