Keeper enjoying his time with Somerset
Michael Bates who recently joined Somerset on a one month contract is finding life at the County Ground very much to his liking.
The 24 year old ‘keeper made his first team debut in the LV=County Championship match against Nottinghamshire last weekend and was out in the middle when the winning runs were hit that saw Somerset to a thrilling two wicket victory.
“It was brilliant to be part of a Somerset side that pulled off an excellent win. After a tough first day we did incredibly well to drag it back and then to see the boys over the line was extra special as well.
“I have to admit that there was a bit of pressure on me when I walked out to the middle but I felt pretty calm about things and relaxed and at that stage it was our game to lose.
“I was always very confident and thankfully we got over the line to claim the win and 20 important points for Somerset.”
Talking about his ‘keeping on his debut Michael said: “Once I settled in I felt pretty good about the way that everything went for me. I got used to the surroundings and standing up to ‘Manny’ and felt happy. In the second dig especially it was all very smooth and everything clicked for me and I feel in a good place at the moment for sure.”
On Friday evening the ‘keeper played his part in another Somerset win by claiming two catches in the five wicket win over Gloucestershire in the NatWest T20 Blast.
