Making “Somerset Dreams” come true
Earlier this year we launched “Somerset Dreams” in a bid to help reward local heroes, community champions and those who always put themselves before others. We asked you to nominate someone who deserved to have their Somerset Dreams come true and on Friday we were delighted to welcome Duncan Green to the County Ground following a nomination from his friends. Despite the weather, Duncan met with all the players in the Andrew Caddick Pavilion and during a tour of the building was welcomed in to the home dressing room.
Tom Forsyth explains why he nominated Duncan: “Duncan and I have been friends for a very long time and we both joined the military at the youngest possible age. During his service Duncan was deployed to Afghanistan where unfortunately he was hit by an IED which has left him disabled with mobility issues. He’s getting married soon and as Best Man I wanted to do something special. Despite the weather it has exceeded our expectations!”
How did Duncan feel about his Somerset Dream? “To have this kind of hospitality has been fantastic,” he said. “Never in a million years did I think that I would get to meet Marcus Trescothick, Alfonso Thomas and Chris Gayle. To have a casual chat with these guys was really nice. Chris even gave me some of his batting gloves and signed them for me.”
Do you want to make someone’s Somerset Dream come true? If you know someone who deserves a unique and “money can’t buy” Somerset Cricket experience, all you need to do is tell us why you have nominated them and what their Somerset Dream is. We will then pick a person at random and make their Somerset Dream a reality! Whether it be meeting the players or a behind the scenes tour of the County Ground, we promise to do all we can to make it happen!
