Player of the Month for May
Cheddar Cricket Club’s James Houghton has been named the Somerset Cricket Board Player for the Month for May.
James was nominated by his team mates after a fantastic month with bat and ball for their 2nds during which he scored 258 runs and took 17 wickets at an average of 10 in 5 league matches.
He started the season with 119 against Fitzhead, followed by 78 not out and 6-32 against Leigh on Mendip. This was followed by 58 and 3-21 against Cranmore and 4-36 against Staplegrove 2nds.
James and a guest were welcomed to The County Ground on Sunday for the first day of the LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire where they were treated to a three course meal courtesy of Somerset County Cricket Club whilst James was also presented with a certificate by Max Waller on the field during the tea interval.
Narrowly missing out on the top prize was Chris Saunders of Long Sutton CC who received a £15 Somerset County Sports voucher as runner up prize.
Third place and a £10 Somerset County Sports voucher was awarded to Castle Cary’s Mike King.
Other notable performances around the county included 15 year old Archie Marsh who scored a club record 191 for Exford, Lloyd Richardson of Claverham who scored 158 and 130 both not out, 13 year old Will Smeed scored two unbeaten centuries, Temple Cloud captain Kev Curtis scored 177 not out against Purnells and Matthew Thorpe of Famborough CC took 10 wickets at 7.40.
