Wins for Somerset Second XI against Gloucestershire
Somerset 2nd XI played Gloucestershire 2nd XI in two T20 matches at Taunton Vale on Thursday.
In the first match Somerset won the toss and elected to bat. Tom Abell and Adam Hose put on 66 for the first wicket before the former was run out for 25. Hose went on to top score with 45 from 22 balls whilst Alex Barrow made 38 and Josh Davey 32. Somerset reached 174 for 7 from their 20 overs.
The Somerset bowlers then had Gloucestershire on the back foot as the visitors slipped to 38 for 3. Despite a strong partnership between Peter Handscomb (58) and Kieran Noema-Barnett (53*) Gloucestershire fell just short of their target as they reached 171 for 5 from their 20 overs as Somerset won by 3 runs.

In the second match Somerset once again won the toss and elected to bat. Hose again batted well for his 39 whilst Alex Barrow (56* from 39 balls) and Josh Davey (50* from 36 balls) helped Somerset to a total of 189 for 3 from their allotted overs.
Despite an opening wicket stand of 78 between Gareth Roderick and Brandon Gilmour and 38 from Cameron Herring, Gloucestershire were not able to keep up with the required run rate and two wickets for Abell helped to limit the visitors to 178 for 4 from their 20 overs as Somerset won by 11 runs.

Afterwards Steve Snell the Second XI Coach said: “We won the toss and batted first in the opening game and we had Tom Abell and Alex Barrow neither of who has played much T20 cricket at all.
“Adam Hose did well in the first few overs and struck the ball with real power and then lost our way a little bit before Alex and Josh Davey played well to get us back on track against a strong Gloucestershire side and we ended on 174 which was about par or just below.
“Our guys then bowled very well- both Bobby Gamble and Adam Dibble stepped up and then Ben Ladd Gibbon chipped in with a couple of important wickets. Jake Lintott from Clevedon played in both games and acquitted himself well and bowled nicely.
“The death bowling by Dibble and Gamble in the first game was really good and Dibble closed the game out very nicely.
Steve went on: “In the second game we had Max Waller come in to captain the side and we won the toss and batted. Davey and Barrow did the donkey work in the middle of the order and did well for us and we finished with a score of 189 which was competitive.
“Gareth Roderick batted fluently for them but after that we closed the game out and Abell did well and took one for 24 from his four overs showing that he has got all round potential.
“It was great to win both games today, which made up for our disappointing loss on Wednesday.”
Steve added: “I am really pleased especially after beating Glamorgan last week in a double header. The guys who went to Finals Day last year all enjoyed it and we are very keen to get there again. That’s the target but we are not looking too far ahead!”
The somerset squad for the match is as follows: T. Abell*, A. Hose, S. Underdown, A. Barrow, M. Bates+, J. Davey, S. Wyatt-Haines, R. Gamble, A. Dibble, J. Lintott, B. Ladd-Gibbon.
