Academy Partner announced
We are pleased to announce that King’s College, Taunton will once again be our Academy Partner in 2015.
The partnership is a renewal of the current arrangement which was signed last year and once again forges a strong link between the Club and one of the country’s most highly regarded education providers.
Both Somerset County Cricket Club and Kings College, Taunton have been at the very heart of the community in Somerset’s County Town since the late 19th century and there are strong links between the two organisations on the field of play. Cricket has always been at the forefront of the school’s culture and traditions whilst it has also been designated as a Centre of Cricketing Excellence. In recent years former pupils such as Jos Buttler, Alex Barrow, Craig Meschede and James Regan have gone on to represent Somerset County Cricket Club. There is also a long list of former students who have also played First Class cricket in the past. These include Roger Twose (ex-New Zealand Test and ODI cricketer), Richard Harden (former Somerset and Yorkshire batsman), Nick Boulton (Ex-Somerset & Worcestershire plus Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 1998) and Tom Webley (Ex-Somerset).
The school has also been awarded the status of being one of the first MCC Foundation Hubs, an initiative which will allow local young cricketers access to the outstanding coaching and facilities that King’s can provide.
Our head of Commercial Operations Jez Curwin said: “The continuation of our partnership with King’s College, Taunton is fantastic news for both parties. We worked on a number of successful initiatives together last year and it will be exciting to build on what is already a productive working relationship.”
