Ashes Excitement Builds at Taunton
The world media descended on Taunton at lunchtime yesterday for the press conference ahead of the first match in the 2015 Women’s Ashes series.
Charlotte Edwards the England captain said: “There is a great deal of excitement in the camp and we just can’t wait to get underway. We have been preparing for a number of months now and are more than ready to get going tomorrow.
“We have got a good blend and there are a lot of youngsters in our squad who are eager to get out there and play. We know that we are going to have to play really well if we are going to beat the Australian team.”
Regarding team selection the England captain said: “We will have another look at the wicket and pick the best team that can hopefully start well for us.”
Talking about what type of wicket England are hoping for the captain said: “We want really good batting pitches that are going to show the women’s game in a great light over the next six weeks so hopefully there will be lots of runs scored.
“The bowlers probably wont be too happy but it is generally good wicket here at Taunton so hopefully there will be lots of runs scored tomorrow.”
Talking about opening the Women’s Ashes series in Taunton the England captain said: “As players you want to play in front of as many people as you possibly can. Tomorrow there will be a lot of people in the ground which is a great advertisement for the women’s game, and we are on television as well, so hopefully the west-country will come out and support us.
Charlotte Edwards added: “We love being down here and we have always had good support here in Taunton and it is probably one of my favourite venues so hopefully there will be a lot people in tomorrow.”
