Somerset 2nd XI beat MCC Young Cricketers
The Somerset 2nd XI were in impressive form today (Monday) as they won their Second XI Trophy match against the MCC Young Cricketers at Taunton Vale.
Somerset won the toss and elected to field and Tim Groenewald took two early wickets to leave the visitors struggling on 6 for 2.
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals throughout the morning and the MCC Young Cricketers were eventually dismissed for 133 in 40.2 overs. Groenewald was the pick of the bowlers and finished with figures of 4 for 32 from 10 overs. Max Waller and Jack Leach claimed two wickets each whilst the there was also a wicket apiece for Adam Dibble and Bobby Gamble.
Requiring 134 for victory, Somerset lost Adam Hose and James Regan with just 15 runs on the board. However, unbeaten half centuries from Tim Rouse (54*) and Alex Barrow (57*) ensured that Steve Snell’s side reached their total without the loss of any further wickets as they claimed victory by 8 wickets with 27.3 overs still remaining.
