Warwickshire v Somerset: Preview
Somerset return to red ball action today when the face Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
Marcus Trescothick’s side will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run in the LV=County Championship First Division which has enabled them to climb from the bottom to fifth place in the table.
Their hosts are one place above them with 17 more points from the same number of matches and an extra victory.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game at Edgbaston all rounder Pete Trego said: “It is always a hard game against Warwickshire so we have got to make sure that we are on it straight away. We have had some great games up there in recent years so we go up with fond memories of quality cricket matches where it is always a good pitch.”
Talking about Somerset’s recent good run Pete said: “Over the last six weeks our Championship cricket has been good overall. We have had a few blips but on the whole have played some good cricket and we are lying mid table at just over the half ways stage. If we can pick up at least a couple more good wins you never know what the end of the season might bring, so we will look to capitalize on the few bowlers that they are down on and see if we can get a positive result.”
Craig Overton returns to the squad after being sidelined for a week with mild concussion, while batsman Tom Cooper has earned a recall after batting well in two Second XI games whilst Lewis Gregory is rested.
Somerset will choose their final line up from the following squad: Marcus Trescothick (Captain), Tom Abell, Johann Myburgh, James Hildreth, Jim Allenby, Tom Cooper, Peter Trego, Craig Overton, Michael Bates (wk), Tim Groenewald, Abdur Rehman, Alfonso Thomas and Jamie Overton
