Derbyshire come out on top in 2nd XI Friendly
Somerset Second XI took on their Derbyshire counterparts in a 50 over friendly match at Belper CC today (Wednesday).
Derbyshire won the toss and elected to field.
The home side made a number of early breakthroughs as Eddie Byrom, Tom Abell and Sam Underdown all found themselves back in the pavilion as Somerset were reduced to 24 for three.
A partnership of 48 between Josh Davey and Tim Rouse steadied the ship and Rouse eventually top scored for Somerset with 34 before he was trapped lbw by Matt Critchley. James Regan made a useful 24 before he too went lbw to Critchley who claimed four for 28 from his nine overs.
Unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals and Somerset were eventually all out for 141 from 41.3 overs.
Two early wickets for Josh Davey reduced Derbyshire to 25 for two but 83 not out from Scott Elstone helped steer the home side towards their required total. Calvin Harrison accounted for Alex Hughes when he was caught by Jamie Overton to leave Derbyshire three down but requiring just two runs for victory. It was left to Tom Knight to hit the winning runs as Derbyshire finished on 144 for three to seal victory by 7 wickets.
