Bridgwater College Partnership proving Successful
Sarah Solt is really enjoying herself working as a waitress in the dining room in the Colin Atkinson Pavilion at the County Ground in Taunton.
Sarah, who hails from Taunton went to Heathfield School and has been working at the club for the last few weeks after attending a pre-employability course at Bridgwater College, Somerset CCCs Education Partner.
“I signed on at the Job Centre in Taunton and they introduced me to a course at Bridgwater College. As part of the course SCCC offered various work experience days at the County Ground. I decided to work in the Hospitality Department for the day and they liked what they saw and offered me a job which I was very happy to accept.
“I am waitressing in the Colin Atkinson Pavilion which I have never done before and I am really enjoying it. I like being front of house and meeting and talking with the customers. Previously I have worked in the kitchen somewhere else but its nice to be out meeting people.”
What is it like working at the County Ground?
“It’s a lovely environment to be working in. The customers are all very nice and the rest of the staff all know each other and get on well with everyone being local which makes it a great atmosphere to work in.”
Whilst Sarah is enjoying her time with Somerset she has plans for her future about which she said: “I am hoping to go back to college in the future at some stage to study vet care but for the next year or so I plan to be here before hopefully going back to Bridgwater College.”
The course that Sarah Solt followed at Bridgwater College entailed working closely with Somerset County Cricket Club to implement a sector-based work academy incorporating company values into a structured theory and practical work experience programme.
The work academy enabled Sarah to progress through the programme picking up qualifications and skills based around working for a sporting organisation, whilst leading to a guaranteed interview, work experience and / or employment.
