Somerset quartet at ECB Under 17s Super 4s
Four young Somerset cricketers George Bartlett, Ben Green and Calvin Harrison, who are all currently on the Academy and Archie Dunning who is on the Emerging Player Programme have been involved with the 94 most talented young players from across the country who have been taking part in the annual England Development Programme (EDP) Under-17s Super 4s this week.
This group of the most talented under 17 male players have been at the National Cricket Performance Centre (NCPC) in Loughborough to play a round-robin 50-over competition, with players selected to represent four geographical regions: London & East, Midlands, North and South West. The matches – which will be played from Tuesday 25th August to Saturday 29th August – offer the players the opportunity to show off their skills in front of watching EDP coaches and selectors, as they aim to make their first step onto the England cricket pathway.
Steve Snell the Director of the Somerset Academy said: “The supers 4s competition is an outstanding vehicle for talented young players to demonstrate their potential whilst gaining valuable experience against the best players in their age group.
“Archie Dunning, in particular has worked extremely hard over the winter and this summer to gain himself an opportunity and his selection is just reward for his efforts. Bartlett and Harrison have both had some exposure in 2nd eleven cricket this summer and will be relishing the opportunities to dominate games of cricket at their own age. “
England Development Programme Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney, said: “The EDP Under-17s Super 4s competition is always a great occasion and the wealth of young talent coming through never ceases to amaze and excite in equal measure. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the players to step out of their “county bubble” and challenge themselves in a different environment and a pressurised situation.”
