2nd XI: Somerset v Yorkshire ends in a draw
Somerset’s three-day 2nd XI friendly against Yorkshire at Taunton Vale has ended in a draw.
Somerset resumed on 64 for two on the final day which was a lead of 149.
Eddie Byrom (27*) and Tim Rouse (21*) were the men who took to the middle when play got underway.
Byrom was dismissed without adding to his overnight score to leave Somerset on 64 for three and Josh Davey then departed for 19 with the score on 93. However, Tim Rouse and George Bartlett put on 138 before the latter was out for 84 on the stroke of lunch.
Somerset resumed on 231 for five after the break with Rouse unbeaten on 72 but he added just four more runs to his total before his dismissal saw Somerset on 239 for six. Max Waller (10*) and George Dockrell (24*) saw Somerset to 271 for six when the declaration came.
Yorkshire made a strong start to their chase but two wickets for Dieter Klein and a wicket each for Alfonso Thomas and George Dockrell slowed the visitors run rate and ensured that the game ended in stalemate.

Somerset Second XI continued the three-day friendly against their Yorkshire counterparts at Taunton Vale today.
Yorkshire began the day on 31/2 with Will Rhodes and Harry Brook at the crease. They took the score onto 92 before Dieter Klein, a 26 year old South African left arm seamer, took his first wicket for Somerset having Brook caught by Max Waller.
Wickets continued to fall during the morning session with only Rhodes (65) providing any real resistance as Somerset look like gaining a significant first innings lead. At lunch the score stood at 158 for 6.
In the afternoon session the visitors fought back with Josh Shaw the only wicket to fall, LBW to George Dockrell for 18. Matthew Waite and Matthew Fisher added 43 for the 8th wicket to see Yorkshire to 253/7 at Tea, trailing by 135 runs.
Yorkshire continued their revival after the interval. Some good lower order hitting saw them to 303/9 when the declaration came with the visitors still 85 in arrears. Waite marshalled the tail well and ended with a composed 59.
There were two wickets each for Dieter Klein, Liam Redrup, Josh Davey and George Dockrell.
After Adam Hose departed in the first over of the Somerset 2nd innings, Eddie Byrom and Alex Barrow added 30 runs as the day drew to a close. After Barrow was out to Josh Shaw, Tim Rouse came in and saw the hosts to 64/2 at the close of day 2. Bryom continued his good form this season and will resume tomorrow on 27 not out.

Yorkshire won the toss and elected to field but Somerset made an excellent start as Adam Hose and Eddie Byrom put on 120 for the first wicket. Byrom was the man to go for 48 when he was caught by Jordan Thompson from the bowling of Karl Carver.
By lunch Somerset had moved on to 123 for one with Hose on 61* and Alex Barrow on 2*.
After the break Hose was eventually dismissed for 83 as Somerset moved on to 167 for two. An impressive century from Alex Barrow ensured that Somerset passed the 300 mark before tea despite the losses of Tim Rouse (25), Josh Davey (8) and George Bartlett (0). When the tea interval arrived Somerset had reached 313 for five with Barrow unbeaten on 110 and Michael Bates on 10 not out.
After tea Bates departed for 18 whilst Barrow was eventually dismissed for 123. When Max Waller was out for 29 Somerset were 388 for eight but unfortunately the final two wickets fell without any further runs being added.
A wicket apiece for Josh Davey and Alfonso Thomas ensured that Somerset ended the day very much on top as Yorkshire were reduced to nine for two but Will Rhodes (17*) and Harry Brook (10*) remained at the crease until the close as the visitors finished the day on 31 for two.

Looking ahead to the match Second XI coach Steve Snell said: “Everybody is really excited at playing against Yorkshire who are one of the top counties and the stand out side over the last few years.”
Steve added: “They are going to be a tough side so we know that our young players will be well tested.”
The Somerset side includes 26 year old Dieter Klein, a South African born left arm seamer who has taken 131 First Class wickets in 37 matches at an average of 26.90 for North West and Lions.
