Busy October for Pete Trego’s Benefit Year!
On the field the season might be approaching the end, but there will still be plenty going on off the pitch as the Peter Trego Benefit Year events continue.
Tonkerfest, Weston-super-Mare, Sunday 27th September
Next up is “Tonkerfest” at Weston-super-Mare & Uphill Castle Cricket Clubs, which takes place on Sunday 27th September.
“Tonkerfest” is a feast of cricket and live music starting with a six-team ten overs per side cricket tournament with each team featuring a Somerset CCC player in their line-up. There are also a number of guest players taking part including 2005 Ashes hero Simon Jones. With a prize pot of £1,000 on offer for the winners, the games are set to be very competitive, and should give spectators plenty of entertainment watching the stars “Tonk” the ball around the park.
After the cricket, it’s the music that takes centre stage, with top band “Lipinski” performing live in Weston-super-Mare’s clubhouse from 7.30pm.
Tickets to the cricket cost just £5 on the gate or in advance from Uphill Castle or Weston-super-Mare Cricket Clubs. Cricket & Curry Night, Newton Abbot – Wednesday 7th October
On Wednesday 7th October a “Cricket & Curry Night” is taking place at The Eastern Eye Restaurant in Newton Abbot. There will be a three course curry meal, a sports quiz in conjunction with the Herald Express newspaper plus a slightly different than usual style Question & Answer session with Peter Trego and some of his Somerset teammates.
Bookings are being taken for tables of four people at a cost of just £60 (£15 per person) for what promises to be a great evening’s entertainment.

“A Tribute to Trego”, Dartmouth – Friday 9th October
Friday 9th October sees “A Tribute to Trego”, an evening of fun, food, entertainment and surprises with Peter Trego and friends, which is taking place in the beautiful South Devon town of Dartmouth.

M J Baker Pro-Am Golf Day, Woodbury Park – Monday 12th October
A busy few days in Devon continues for Pete and his Benefit Committee on Monday 12th October which sees the MJBaker Foodservice sponsored Peter Trego Pro-Am Golf Day at Woodbury Park in East Devon.
Playing on the day will be the PGA Professional Field of 24 players, which includes not only the top 16 players from the PGA South West Region, but also a number of national and international professionals including Joost Luiten, Marc Warren, David Howell, Chris Wood and Phillip Price.

Following the golf there will be a fabulous evening dinner in the Greg Norman suite. After dinner entertainment will include top comedian Gary Marshall, plus a sports quiz compered by former Westcountry TV Head of Sport, Mark Tyler. There will also be a Question & Answer session with a number of the top sportsmen present on the day.

Long Room Dinner, Lord’s – Thursday 22nd October
Thursday 22nd October sees the Benefit Year Dinner in the Long Room at Lord’s in London. Part of the Lord’s pavilion, the world-famous Long Room is one of the sports world’s most celebrated interiors and is normally reserved for MCC Members only. The room is hung with some of the finest paintings in MCC’s impressive collection, and is at the heart of cricket’s grandest clubhouse. Dinner guests will enjoy an ambiance steeped in the history of the game.
The evening will be hosted by TV sports presenter Jim Rosenthal and will include special guests from a number of different sports. Confirmed to date are Rugby Union’s Lee Byrne, Football’s Ron Atkinson and Cricket’s Marcus Trescothick, plus of course the man himself, Peter Trego. We shall also be entertained on the night by comedian Stan Boardman.
A sumptuous three course dinner plus coffee and half a bottle of wine per person are included in the price. Dress code is black tie. Limited individual places are available at £150 per person and there are just a few tables of ten still available at £1500 each.
