Match Preview: Somerset v Warwickshire
Somerset go into their final LV=County Championship match tomorrow at home against Warwickshire knowing that they need seven points to guarantee their place in the First Division in 2016.
Sussex who are one place below them in the table with two points fewer are away against County Champions Yorkshire at Headingley whilst Hampshire who have 18 points fewer than Somerset are at Trent Bridge playing Nottinghamshire.
After the morning training session Matt Maynard the Somerset Director of Cricket said: “Warwickshire are a strong side and will have Ian Bell with them, but we want to give them a bit of payback for the game we had against them up there earlier in the season.
“We have played some good cricket in three of our last four games and we want to keep building on that. We want to keep on improving and working hard through to the end of the season.”
Matt went on: “We know that we need seven points from this game, but you can’t go into the match with that mind set. We have got to go out there believing that we can win so we will be looking to set a good first innings total, whether we bat first or second, and put some pressure on Warwickshire batsmen.
Looking ahead to the match Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick who has scored 363 for once out in his last two championship matches said: “Last week’s game at Sussex was important for us to get to where we are in the table and now we need to up our game against a strong Warwickshire team. We need to play well over the course of the four days and try to get the result we are all looking for to ensure our first division survival.”
Somerset will be missing the services of Craig Overton after the 21 year old all rounder received a two match disciplinary ban from the ECB, so Alfonso Thomas, who made his last red ball appearance when the two sides met at Edgbaston in July is added to the squad.
The full Somerset squad is – Marcus Trescothick (c), Tom Abell, Jim Allenby, Alex Barrow, Tom Cooper, Lewis Gregory, Tim Groenewald, James Hildreth, Jack Leach, Jamie Overton , Luke Ronchi, Alfonso Thomas and Pete Trego.
