Somerset Women heading for promotion
Somerset Women’s cricket team took another step closer to realizing their target of promotion to the top division this season when they comfortably beat Durham at Midsomer Norton CC on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first Somerset posted 190 for nine from their 50 overs, of which Gwen Davies contributed an impressive 96, her best of the season.
When they replied Durham were soon in trouble and were eventually bowled out for 80.
Cassie Coombes ended with figures of three wickets for eight runs from her 6.3 overs, while Jenny Withers claimed three for 21 from her eight.
Afterwards team captain Sophie Luff said: “To get 190- for nine was a good score on a wicket that offered the bowlers assistance and a very slow outfield due to overnight rain and rain during the game.
“Then to bowl them out for 80 was a disciplined performance with the ball and continued what we have been doing all season with the ball.”
Somerset now host Wales in their final match of the season at the County Ground in Taunton on Sunday September 13th about which Sophie said: “To finish the season unbeaten at the County Ground would be a fantastic effort and to gain promotion to division one finally would be just reward for the hard work we have put in this season!”
