Two centuries in as many weeks for Sophie
Somerset Women’s vice captain Sophie Luff scored her second century in as many weeks when she made an unbeaten 138 at the County Ground on Sunday to help the side to a resounding victory over Wales and secure promotion to Division One.
Reflecting on her achievement the 21 year old, who also plays men’s cricket for Lympsham in the Somerset Cricket League, said: “To be crowned Division Two champions and gain promotion to division one is fantastic for us but is just reward for all our hard work during the season.
“Everyone in our squad has contributed at some point but it really has been such a team effort this year and that’s what we will need to continue to do looking ahead to the 2016 season in Division One.”
Sophie went on: “To finish the season in style, winning by 141 runs at the County Ground was brilliant and it’s always nice to contribute. As a senior player in the squad and batting at three, it’s important that I look to bat through and score a large bulk of our runs. Credit must also go to our bowlers on Sunday. Anya bowled a fantastic spell up front with the new ball and Jackie Hawker showed us just how much experience she brings to the side by taking three wickets with her medium pace.”
Regarding her recent batting form Sophie said: “To score two unbeaten tons in consecutive weeks is really pleasing, I’m hitting the ball nicely at the minute but the biggest thing for me is that my confidence is high and that’s something that seems to be improving season upon season.”
