Matt getting ready for Big Bike Ride Two
Somerset Director of Cricket Matt Maynard is preparing to get back in the saddle for the Big Bike Ride Two later this month.
Matt will be joined by Club Captain Marcus Trescothick, Chief Executive Guy Lavender and Head Groundsman Simon Lee for the event which will raise money for the Professional Cricketers’ Association Benevolent Fund and the Tom Maynard Trust.
The Somerset contingent, who all took part in the inaugural Big Bike Ride in 2013, will be joining around 60 riders including some of the biggest names from the world of cricket who will be cycling from Truro in Cornwall to the Kia Oval.
“It’s going to be a challenge both mentally and physically,” said Matt. “But it’s raising money for two charities that are very close to my heart. The Tom Maynard Trust was set up in Tom’s memory to help young sports people achieve their dreams and the PCA Benevolent Fund helps former players who have fallen upon hard times. The first Big Bike Ride was an enormous success and we are all looking forward to this years event.
“There’s a great sense of camaraderie that builds up amongst all the riders because you’re doing around 80 miles a day on tough terrain and you all help each other out. I’m so grateful to everyone who has already donated and I am really thankful for everyone’s support.”
The ride will cover around 400 miles with the first leg being held between Truro to Instow in Devon on October 9. The following day the riders will cycle from Instow to Somerset’s County Ground headquarters at Taunton followed by legs from Taunton to Hampshire’s Ageas Bowl on October 11, the Ageas Bowl to Sussex’s TheBrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground at Hove on October 12 ending with the final leg from Hove to the Kia Oval on October 13.
