Somerset Women and Girls celebrate a great season
The Somerset Women’s and Girls’ Presentation Evening took place in the Long Room at the County Ground recently and has been hailed as a great success by all of those who attended.
Almost 100 players and their guests were present to celebrate a highly successful season that culminated with the Somerset Women’s team gaining promotion back to the top division of the County Championship.
Somerset Cricket Development Manager Andy Fairbairn hosted the evening and after welcoming everybody he introduced Paul Lawrence, who has recently taken over as Women and Girls Performance Coach.
Each of the age groups then made a Power Point presentation after which the respective team coach or manager presented awards to the leading batter and bowler.
Finally the coveted Second Division Championship trophy and the winners medals were presented to the members of the Somerset Women’s team who were present by Caroline Foster.
The winners of the age group awards were:
- Batter of the Year- Alice Dymond
- Bowler of the Year- Harriet Dimdore-Miles
- Batter of the Year- Sophie Hamilton
- Bowler of the Year- Jodie File
- Batter of the Year – Emily Bayliss
- Bowler of the Year- Izzy Williams
- Batter of the Year- Sophie Luff
- Bowler of the Year- Anya Shrubsole
- Somerset County Sports Players Player of 2015- Sophie Luff.
During the course of the evening two former England cricketers who have close association with Somerset cricket, Caroline Foster and Jan Godman shared their experiences with those present and talked about the pathway into the senior game.
Afterwards Andy Fairbairn said: “It was a fantastic evening and I’m grateful to everyone who attended. The evening is all about the players and their achievements but it is also a great opportunity to thank the managers and coaches of the teams and also the parents, without whom it would not be possible to run the teams as we do.”
He added: “We are all very excited about 2016 and the opportunities it will provide for players to showcase their skills.”
