England Women return to Taunton in 2016
Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to be able to announce that we will once again be hosting an England Women’s One-Day International in 2016.
Following the tremendous success of the opening fixture of the 2015 Women’s Ashes series here at the County Ground, the ECB have today announced that Somerset CCC will stage the third and final Women’s ODI against Pakistan on Monday June 27th.
Somerset CEO Guy Lavender said: “Last year’s Women’s Ashes fixture here was an incredible day. The huge crowd witnessed a fantastic match which was capped by a victory for England. To be welcoming the Women’s team back here in 2016 is a real honour.
“As we have said in the past, we have strong links with the Women’s game. In 2009 the County Ground was designated The Home of Women’s Cricket to coincide with the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament. Despite the England team now being based at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University we still like to think of Taunton as their spiritual home.”
ECB’s Director of England Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, said: “The opening match of the Women’s Ashes at the County Ground in Taunton this summer was one of the highlights of the season. We were particularly thrilled see so many women and girls in the ground, many of whom were watching their first live cricket match, and I am delighted that Somerset CCC will once again host England women next year. The players love playing there, and I am sure they are already looking forward to playing in front of another packed crowd with a brilliant atmosphere.”
This fixture will be free to all 2016 Somerset County Cricket Club Members whilst tickets will cost just £10 in advance and £15 on the gate with junior tickets priced at just £1.
The ECB also confirmed today that Sky Sports and BBC Radio will provide live ball-by-ball television and radio coverage of all six of England Women’s encounters against Pakistan.
