Somerset trio seeking World Cup Glory
The ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup gets underway on Wednesday and three Somerset stars of the future will be playing a part as England look to win the competition for the first time in 18 years.
George Bartlett, Ben Green and Ryan Davies are all part of the England squad that will be seeking to emulate the likes of Robert Key and Graeme Swann who lifted the trophy back in 1998.
England go in to the tournament as one of the favourites and get the competition underway when they face debutantes Fiji in the opening match in Chittagong on the 27th. Their second match in Group C is against the West Indies on January 29th with the final group match on January 31st against Zimbabwe.
England will be looking to go one stage further than they did during the last tournament, which took place two years ago, when they lost in the semi final to Pakistan by three wickets. England did finish that competition on a high though after beating Australia by one wicket in a dramatic third place play off.
Ahead of the World Cup Ben Green said: “This is going to be fantastic and a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to make sure that I make the most of it and I am very happy indeed to be going. I need to string together some good performances and then you never know what might happen.”
George Bartlett is also keen for the tournament to begin: “Its pretty close now and I’m feeling good about it and really excited,” he said.
