Craig looks back on his Lions experience
Craig Overton has just returned to the Cooper Associates County Ground after spending the last few weeks in Dubai where he has been playing for the England Lions in the One-Day series against Pakistan A.
The 21 year old said: “I had a pretty successful trip and when I played I did alright although I would have liked to have bowled a few more overs in the games. Having said that, it was good to be able to contribute and take a few wickets. It was really nice to be able to spend a few weeks out in Dubai training and playing out on the grass. The winter back here is a long one and you are indoors all the time so I have been lucky to have been outside and got some overs in my legs.”
Craig and twin brother Jamie appeared together for the Lions in one game about which he said: “In one of the warm up games Jamie and I were bowling together which was really nice and hopefully we can get to do it a bit more of that this summer and both contribute with the ball.”
Talking about his brothers rapid unbeaten half century Craig said: “If he learned to be a bit more patient with the bat he would score a lot more runs! At the minute he just tries to whack it! It seems like it’s going alright for him though so hopefully he can keep on doing that. Hopefully we will get to bat a bit more together this season because it’s always a lot of fun when we do. Now I’m back in Taunton with the rest of the locally based Somerset players my main focus is the new season which isn’t too far away now. I’d like to carry on from where I was last season and take a few wickets and score some runs as well to help Somerset win matches.
“Pretty soon the squad will be going out to Desert Springs for a pre-season camp, and the bowlers are going out there three days earlier to prepare and get used to the conditions, so I am looking forward to that and getting back into the sun.”
Craig added: “There aren’t that many of us back here at the Club but there is a real buzz about the place and everyone is working really hard towards the new season.”
