Sam and Amy all set for London Marathon
Somerset’s Catering General Manager Sam Safe and her daughter Amy Frampton are all set for the Virgin Money London Marathon tomorrow which they will be running for the Anthony Nolan Trust.
This is the pair’s first marathon and although the training hasn’t gone quite according to plan, they are both determined to complete the 26 miles, 385 yards because the cause they are running for is one that is very close to their hearts.
Sam’s husband Simon, who is the Executive Chef at Somerset CCC, was diagnosed with Leukaemia two years ago but thanks to the help and support that he received from Anthony Nolan he is well on his way to making a full recovery.
Before setting off to face one of the biggest challenges of her life Sam said: “Mentally I’m in a good place now and I’ve got the mindset and know that I’m going to do it. However, unfortunately I had an injury that set me back a few weeks and I didn’t quite get the mileage I wanted to, but I feel ready for it now.”
Talking about the support the pair have recieved Sam said: “It has been just fantastic and people have supported us brilliantly. Currently we are on about £9,500 and if we could reach the magic figure of £10k that would completely exceed our expectations!”
How does Sam think she will feel when she gets to the start on Sunday morning? “There will be lots of mixed emotions,” she said. I’m told by people who have run the London Marathon that after a couple of days you will feel ready to run it again, but we will just have to wait and see about that!”
