2nd XI: Double delight for Somerset
Somerset Seconds enjoyed a double success yesterday (Monday) when they beat their Worcestershire counterparts in both of the T20 games that they played at Taunton Vale.
In the first game Somerset, who chose to bat first got off to a flying start thanks to an opening partnership of 91 between Johann Myburgh and Adam Hose in 10.5 overs before the latter departed for 36.
Myburgh was on fire and went to his century in just 57 balls with nine 4s and five 6s before he perished on 103.
Following his departure Michael Leask hit 20 while Tim Rouse ended 20 not out as the hosts posted 197 for three.
Worcestershire in reply were never really up with the asking rate and ended on 137 for nine, Yasir Arafat taking three for 35 and Liam Redrup two for 14.
In the second match Worcestershire chose to bat first and were limited to 126 for eight from their 20 overs. Redrup was the pick of the Somerset bowlers taking three for 30, while Myburgh bowled a miserly four overs for 13 runs and took two wickets.
When the hosts replied despite Myburgh’s 25 at the top of the order, Somerset found themselves 45 for five before Leask and Rouse came together and remained at the wicket to see the side across the line.
Somerset reached 130 for five, both Leask and Rouse ending unbeaten on 40, the Scotsman’s runs coming off 26 balls with two 4s and three 6s, while the former Academy player faced 34
deliveries and hit four 4s.
