Tom to miss Hampshire match
Somerset opening batsman Tom Abell will miss this weekend’s Specsavers County Championship match against Hampshire through injury.
The 22 year old, who has scored over 260 runs in the competition this season, has a slight back issue as Lead Physio Jamie Thorpe explains: “Tom has been suffering from some lower back pain over the last few weeks. He will be seeing a specialist later this week and we are confident that this won’t effect him in the long term. We will be creating a rehab programme specifically tailored to his needs and hopefully he will be back out in the middle soon doing what he does best.”
Speaking about the injury Tom said: “It’s really frustrating because I’m desperate to play but it’s just one of those things that are part and parcel of professional sport. I need to make sure that I don’t rush back before I’m ready because I’ll be no good to anybody if I’m not fit. I’ve been seeing the physio every day and at the moment it’s just a case of doing what I can to rest. Hopefully it will improve soon because I want to be back playing sooner rather than later.
“It’s never nice to miss games and I’m still 100% behind the guys. I’ll be keeping a close eye on what’s happening at Hampshire and hopefully we can get a good result there.”
