Mixed fortunes for Somerset Women
The Somerset Women’s team enjoyed mixed fortunes in the two T20 matches that they played at Bath on Sunday.
In the first match the hosts added another win to their T20 campaign with a clinical performance against Wales. Batting first Somerset posted 109 for five on quite a slow wicket but it was the bowlers, especially their four spinners, that were exceptional with the ball as they restricted Wales to 89 for seven.
However, in the second game against Essex the batting failed to deliver and Somerset fell well below par on a tough wicket reaching 50 for nine off 20 overs. Once again Somerset were good with the ball and can take some heart from the fact that they made it tough for Essex who got the total in the 16th over, with five wickets down.
Vice captain Sophie Luff said: “On reflection, on that pitch in the last game of the day had we posted 75 or 80 runs, we would have backed ourselves to defend that. We have to find a way to get ourselves in by scoring in T20 and release a little bit of pressure off ourselves. Having said that, T20 can be quite cruel and when you have a bad game it can look ten times worse but we have a lot of positives to take from the two games and we go into the next round of matches still confident of a top spot finish in the Division.”
