Under 15s off to Sri Lanka
Somerset’s Under 15 squad departed from the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Tuesday afternoon for a 10 day tour to Sri Lanka.
During their time away the 14 strong squad, who will be accompanied by Somerset Cricket Board head coach Greg Kennis, Under 15 team manager Piers McBride and SCB Development Manager Andy Fairbairn, will play five one-day matches as well as take in some of the sights of Sri Lanka.
Before heading off, Greg Kennis said: “This is a really exciting trip for the Under 15 boys and they are all raring to go. I’m sure that during their time away there will be some great experiences for them both on and off the pitch.
“I know that a few of the boys have been fortunate enough to have been to Sri Lanka before on school tours, but for many it will be the first time they have gone on a trip like this so they will have to cope with being away from home as well as all the other demands. It will be a good challenge for them.
Kennis went on: “We are out in Sri Lanka for 10 days during which time we will play five matches as well as having time to practice. On the non-cricketing days we will have the chance to enjoy some cultural experiences and travel, so it is a full on schedule.”
He added: “There isn’t much down time but it’s an exciting prospect both for the boys and also for me as their coach.”
After the squad come back there will be another six weeks of the winter programme left after which there will be practice games before the final summer squads are announced in early May.
