In 2014 Somerset County Cricket Club will be embarking on a fundraising campaign and an Appeal to help the Club realise its ambition of building the new Somerset Pavilion and to bring International cricket to Taunton. The purpose of my letter is to ask you to consider supporting this Appeal. The General Committee have set a target of raising £150,000 over the course of the next twelve months which we hope will be achievable through the generosity and support of Members like you.
You may rightly ask why a financially secure Club should be asking its Members to help. Well, building new facilities is expensive and the current build costs are estimated at £3.8M. Despite your Club being commercially successful we remain a relatively small business and whilst we have the majority of financial resources now in place for the project, the support of Members will make a difference. Rest assured we plan to continue to invest heavily in our most important priority – an exceptionally strong and capable playing squad. This project will not detract from that vital objective.
Mindful that you may not be up to date with the Somerset Pavilion project, I thought a short summary would be helpful. The Somerset Pavilion is Phase 4 of the Club’s strategic development plan which has transformed the County Ground over the last seven years into one of the best venues in the country to watch cricket. This project sees the very necessary replacement of the Old Pavilion and St James stand, which sadly are reaching the end of their lives, with a new facility comprising high-quality covered seating behind the bowlers arm, alongside a large bar and entertainment area (the Stragglers Bar is returning!), high-quality corporate/media facilities and a magnificent roof top viewing area. Attached is an architect’s impression showing the design for the building and I am sure you will agree it will be a superb addition to the ground and will bring immense pleasure to the current and next generation of Somerset Members.
The intention is to commence the build at the end of the 2014 season and once completed the Somerset Pavilion will also bring the ground to the standard required to host International cricket. The thrilling prospect of One-day International cricket in Taunton will bring pleasure and pride to both Members’ and cricket fans as well as substantial benefits to the local economy.
There are four tiers of donations that we would be grateful if you would consider and these are shown in the table below:
|Bronze||£50||Members’ names will be publically displayed in the Stragglers Bar, recognising and acknowledging their contribution.|
|Silver||£100||As above, but also to include the award of a limited edition silk Appeal tie or scarf.|
|Gold||£500||As above, but also to include a personal invitation and dinner at the Somerset Pavilion grand opening.|
|Platinum||£1000||As above, but also to include an engraved decanter.|
If you were minded to help the Club achieve its objectives then I would be extremely grateful if you would send a cheque made payable to the ‘Somerset Pavilion Appeal’ to the Club offices. Alternatively, please call 0845 337 1875 to make a donation via debit or credit card during office hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
We would also be delighted to discuss with any Members or businesses who have an interest in commercial sponsorship or naming rights and I would ask that you contact our CEO, Guy Lavender on 0845 337 1875 if you would be interested in a conversation in this regard. Alternatively please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, Somerset County Cricket Club is first and foremost a Members Club, owned by Members like you since 1875. Your assistance on this strategic project will help cement the Club’s position at the top of English cricket and ensure that both present and future generations of Somerset Members can enjoy the immense pleasure of supporting our great Club in world class facilities.
