Somerset County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the opening of a Sports Injury Clinic at the County Ground.
Led by the Head of Sports Medicine and Lead Physiotherapist at Somerset County Cricket Club, Ian Brewer, the Clinic will operate from The Andy Caddick Pavilion, providing members of the public with the same expert advice, support and holistic service received by elite sportsmen.
The Sports Injury Clinic offers treatment for a wide range of conditions including:
- Sports injuries incurred across the full spectrum of competitive activity
- All musculoskeletal injuries – including neck and back pain, joint pain and muscle strains
- Ligament injuries
- Rehabilitation following surgery or fractures
- Traumatic or chronic injuries
The Clinic also offers whole body musculoskeletal screenings to identify areas of weakness from which a formulated ‘prehab’ programme can be created to help reduce injuries occurring whilst taking part in your specific sport.
On arrival at The Andy Caddick Pavilion you will be invited to attend the Physiotherapy Department – just as the professional players do. Your first, 45 minute session will be focus on in depth assessment of your current injury, which will form the basis of a personal treatment programme to enhance your recovery and suit your personal demands
Our treatment options are designed to reduce your pain and improve your function and may include:
- soft tissue massage,
- deep tissue sports massage,
- deep transverse frictions for ligaments,
- mobilisations of joints,
- manipulations of joints,
- electrotherapy,
- exercises to develop strength or improve flexibility,
- taping techniques
- hydrotherapy in our purpose built rehabilitation pool.

Ian, a Chartered Physiotherapist and member of the Health Professionals Council, has extensive experience working within elite professional sport at the highest level, including with Somerset, The ECB and within rugby union. This experience and his desire to keep abreast of all the latest research provides the professional players at Somerset Cricket Club with cutting edge treatment modalities and management strategies with all their injuries, a service now open to the general public.
