Somerset Seconds beat Exeter University.
Adam Hose with 83 and George Bartlett who made 78 along with a five a wicket haul for Dom Bess saw Somerset Seconds to victory by 54 runs over Exeter University at Taunton Vale on Thursday.
After choosing to bat first the hosts got off to a good start thanks to an opening partnership of 90 from 17 overs before captain Jim Allenby retired on 49, his runs coming off 56 balls with seven 4s and one 6.
Opening partner Bartlett then added 34 with Eddie Byrom before the latter was out for 13, and 25 with Johann Myburgh.
However with the total on 149 in the 30th over Bartlett was dismissed for 78 which he scored from 85 deliveries and which included nine 4s and two 6s.
Myburgh and Hose then shared a very productive partnership that added 75 runs before Myburgh fell for 49 off 51 balls with six 4s,with the total on 224 in the 40th over.
Despite the loss of Max Waller cheaply Hose then stepped up the rate and put on 46 with Ryan Davies in five overs before the keeper was out for 10.
New batsman Michael Leask raced to 21 in nine balls before he was out with the total on 310 and in the final over Hose perished for 83 which came off 50 deliveries with before Somerset ended their innings on 318 for eight.
When the students replied the openers took the total onto 32 before Ben Green had opener O’Brien caught by ‘keeper Ryan Davies.
Left hander Harris who shared the opening duties then took charge and all the while he was at the wicket he kept the run rate moving.
Harris went to a deserved century but two runs later with the total on 151 he was bowled by Michael Leask, his runs coming off 87 balls with nine 4s and 8 sixes.
Fitzjohn and Slade then added 64 together before Jim Allenby removed the former after which the introduction of Bess signalled the end for the students.
The young off spinner reduced Exeter University from 227 for five to 264 all out to end with figures of five for 64 off 10 overs.
This was the final warm up match before the first Second XI Trophy match against Surrey away at Purley CC on Monday April 24th.
