Sophie discusses 2018 fixtures
Western Storm’s Sophie Luff has welcomed the news that the 2018 Kia Super League will be bigger and better than ever before.
The new format will see each team play each other twice meaning that there will be twice as many fixtures. That means twice the action and twice the excitement.
The 24 year old played through the Somerset age groups and has been part of the England Academy. She also led Somerset Women back to the top division in the ECB 50-Over Competition last summer and is already looking forward to the new campaign.
“The 2018 season seems a lot closer now with the release of our fixtures,” she said. “Obviously ten games means that the games come thick and fast during the tournament. It’s exciting that we kick start the Kia Super League with the first game against Yorkshire Diamonds at the Cooper Associates County Ground. We’ll be hoping that we can start the tournament better than we did last year!
“Being a local girl, I’m thrilled that we’ve got three home games at Taunton. It’s a great place to play, the support we get is brilliant and as a team we really enjoy playing there. We are also playing a game as part of the Cheltenham Cricket Festival which will be a great experience.”
Sophie is also excited by the prospect of more double-header fixtures too. “Three double headers with T20 Blast matches will hopefully mean bigger crowds and more media coverage plus there is the fantastic opportunity for players like myself to play at Test Match grounds for the first time.”
What are her hopes for the coming year?
“In terms of my aspirations for 2018 I’ll be doing all I can to score as many runs as possible,” she said. “Hopefully if I can build on some of the contributions I put in last season and deliver match winning performances for Western Storm then who knows? I’m fully aware there is the T20 World Cup in November next year though.”
Western Storm kick off the defence of their Kia Super League title on Sunday July 22nd against Yorkshire Diamonds at Taunton and their full list of fixtures is as follows:
