Press Day 2018 Photos
Somerset held their 2018 Press Day at the Cooper Associates County Ground on Wednesday which was a very well attended event, when not even the light rain could prevent the positive mood that was clearly present.
The event gave the media the chance to meet the club’s new Chief Executive Andrew Cornish, who made it quite clear that his objective was to help the club win silverware.
Andy Hurry the Director of Cricket said that whilst the pre-season plans had been limited by the weather, a major positive had been the erection of the marquee that had provided much needed practice on grass for both the batters and bowlers.
“What I have been really impressed with has been the attitude of the staff and the players and when they had their chance to play in the one day game against Worcestershire and the four day game with Ireland, they developed partnerships and the bowlers all did well.”
Hurry made it quite clear that Somerset would be competing in all three formats and his target was to win the Specsavers County Championship.
“Everything is moving in the right direction and we are confident that we are ready to go.”
Club captain Tom Abell said that all of the signs were very positive, with most of the batters enjoying decent time in the middle and the bowling unit impressing also.
“There are going to be some real tough selection dilemmas, but that it what we want!”
“I was really happy with how we performed in pre-season matches. There is a great feeling about the place, but the challenge to us is to make sure that we are ready to deliver our skills on April 20th because the is when it counts.
The captain added: “We are going into the season with the bar set high and looking to win every game, but we mustn’t get too far ahead of ourselves.”
T20 Vitality Blast newly appointed captain Lewis Gregory added: “Its a massive honour for me and a really exciting challenge. Hopefully we can win some silverware this season to bring back to the Club.
“We have got avery talented bunch of lads with a lot of experience and we will be looking to go out there be positive. We are looking to play some really aggressive cricket and hope we come out on the right side of things.”
