We’re entering an exciting time at SCCC – the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to review our strategy and develop future plans to take the Club to new heights on and off the field. We are in a strong position to grow and achieve our ambitious goals which have ‘cricket at the heart and business on the mind’.

The Role

We are recruiting for a Senior Grounds Person to join our first-class grounds team. You will provide close support to the Head Grounds Person and Deputy Head Grounds Person in all aspects of grounds and pitch care, along with some basic team supervision. You will assist in the preparation and maintenance of the first-class cricket pitches at Cooper Associates County Ground, ensuring our high standards are met and will support in the preparation and development of pitches and facilities at Taunton Vale Sports Club. This involves placing and removing coverings, removal of surface water, practice nets and facilities set-up and maintenance of turf machinery. The role also includes general maintenance at both locations alongside some basic supervision of the team of assistant grounds people in the absence, or direction, of the Head Grounds Person.

The successful applicant will have:

  • NVQ/Diploma level 2 in turf science /groundsmanship or equivalent or demonstrable level of experience.
  • Knowledge of modern sports turf processes and innovations.
  • Understanding of what is required to prepare and maintain first-class cricket pitches.
  • Appreciation and understanding of agronomic principles in turf.
  • Demonstrable level of experience working as a ground’s person in a similar sporting environment.

The Cooper Associates County Ground is home to this highly successful club and as well as hosting almost 50 days of cricket, delivers numerous conferences and events which include weddings, concerts and open-air cinema evenings. As a business, we have bold ambitions both on and off the pitch with the desire to make the Cooper Associates County Ground a 365-day venue and the primary sporting and business destination in the Southwest.

The Role

If you are passionate about creating professional dishes from fresh ingredients and gaining experience in a multi-dimensional catering facility, then this is the role for you. In partnership with Bridgwater and Taunton College, we are looking to recruit an Apprentice Commis Chef to support the Head Chef and team in delivering best practice and culinary excellence across SCCC. You will have exposure to delivering food for a variety of functions, from award ceremonies and large scale dinners of 350 attendees to smaller, intimate functions, music concerts and performances and across all formats of cricket, plus many more different events and functions.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head Chef and team to achieve quality, fresh food for both match days and non-match days.
  • To ensure effective food safety and allergen management, and dietary specifications are adhered to throughout the food production process and into operational delivery.
  • To assist in cleaning all kitchen areas including stores and all back of house areas, ensuring high level cleaning standards are maintained.
  • To assist in stock deliveries, ensuring quality of product and quantities delivered were as ordered. Ensure all stock is dated and rotated appropriately.
  • Promote a pro-active Health and Food Safety culture and assist in appropriate recordings.
  • Ensure high standards of personal appearance and cleanliness and wear the correct uniform at all times.
  • Participate in the completion of weekly and monthly stocktakes.
  • Engage with all profit protection procedures.
  • Ensure all food waste is recorded for evaluation.
  • To assist in developing new products or service styles which reflect current trends and provide opportunities to improve customer service.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have 5 GCSE in the range of 9-3 (A* to E), including English and maths (or equivalent qualifications).

Individuals who have not yet achieved English and Maths at GCSE Grade D / Functional Skills Level 1 (or equivalent qualification) or above will need to do so in order to complete this Apprenticeship.

The successful candidate will also need to complete a diagnostic assessment, which will help us plan the appropriate support required to meet your individual needs.

Please note: The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £4.30 per hour from 1st April 2021. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The Role

If you are passionate about providing top-level hospitality service and client experience and developing your skills in a multi-dimensional catering facility, then this is the role for you. In partnership with Bridgwater and Taunton College, we are looking to recruit an Apprentice Hospitality Supervisor to ensure the customer receives the highest quality of services. You will have exposure to food and beverage provision for a variety of functions, from award ceremonies and large-scale dinners of 350 attendees to smaller, intimate functions, music concerts and performances and across all formats of cricket, plus many more different events and functions.

The role requires you to assist or be responsible for the running of events through food and drink service and to ensure that staff are fulfilling their duties to the best of their ability:

  • To provide excellent customer service,
  • Ensure high standards and efficiency of work,
  • To follow the venue’s rules and regulations in licensing and to maintain high standards of hygiene, health and safety at the venue.

As this role will require handling alcohol, applicants must be 18 or over.

Main Duties:

  • Ensure events are set up and ready on time for client arrival.
  • Ensure excellent front of house service, allocate and support staff throughout the event to maintain timings and efficiency.
  • Maintain staff productivity and positivity.
  • Ensure staff meet the standards of the bar and food service, addressing and correcting bad practice and acknowledging good performance.
  • Liaise with chefs, kitchen team and front of house management to resolve problems and ensure great service.
  • Pre-empt and actively respond to problems that arise and keep senior management up to date.
  • Strive to maintain a high standard of customer service and be willing to do everything in your power to make sure that each and every customer is satisfied.
  • Adhere to any reasonable requests from senior management
  • Create and a productive relationship with the event client
  • To have a full understanding of the licensing law and all other legislation relevant to your role and the rules for the venue

The Team:

  • Ensure staff are positioned appropriately at the bar and throughout the event space to demonstrate excellent service standards.
  • Ensure training is on-going and specific to meet the current needs of the operation aligned to the service level.
  • Inspire and motivate the team to achieve 5* standards and therefore achieve sales and profits.

Financial Performance:

  • Effectively manage the administration to ensure every opportunity is taken to minimise cost, maximise sales while maintaining the highest level of service.
  • Till training and making sure that staff are confident and competent on the till.
  • Responsible for cashing up tills and overall event cash handling.

Licensing:

  • Ensure all staff comply with legal requirements
  • Ensure that accurate signs and prices are displayed

Hygiene and Cleaning:

  • Observe all relevant legal requirements, industry guides to good hygiene practices and government codes of practice.
  • Ensure adherence to the company food safety policy, including completion of records

Health and Safety at work:

  • Ensure the health and safety of customers within the event venue
  • Ensure adherence to the company health and safety policy.
  • Report any problems with equipment to the General Manager.
  • Comply with the venues fire procedures and legislation.

Knowledge, skills and experience required
