Job Vacancy: 1st XI County Scorer
Accountable to: Chief Operating Officer
Responsible for: Official scoring of all 1st team county games both at home and away; operation of scoreboard for other matches at the Cooper Associates County Ground as requested
Contract and hours: Fixed term contract during the cricket season mid-March to end of September
Somerset County Cricket Club is a highly successful and varied sporting organisation that hosts almost 50 days of First-Class cricket, numerous Conferences and Events throughout the year as well as playing an important role in the local community. We have 6,500 Members and crowds of 7,500 supporters for some matches.
In 2019, the Coopers Associates County Ground will host three ICC Men’s World Cup matches following the highly successful International match held in 2017. The Ground is also utilised for many other events such as Concerts and Open-Air Cinema evenings.
The Role – Principle Responsibilities and Tasks
This is a rare and exciting opportunity at the Club following the retirement of our long-standing 1st XI County Scorer, Gerry Stickley, who has been at the Club for a very credible 37 years!
The role forms part of the officiating team responsible for scoring all 1st XI county matches both home and away. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating the electronic scoreboard, liaising with the officials of visiting teams for both home and away matches, liaising with the COO and Head Coach at all matches and collating all relevant information required by the accounts department as requested.
The Skills and Knowledge
Please note first and foremost that this role requires at least an ECB ACO Level 2 qualification.
* Knowledge and demonstrable experience of linear scoring (or other paper-based equivalents)
* Knowledge and demonstrable experience of computer scoring – preferably PCS Pro
* Demonstrable experience of scoring in high-level club cricket (Premier League or equivalent)
* Scoring for county age-group teams would be desirable, but not essential
* Knowledge of how to calculate and monitor over-rates in red-ball cricket
* Experience of using DLS is not essential, but the successful applicant should have some knowledge of how calculations are made at First-Class level for DLS par scores and revised targets in rain-affected white-ball games
* A willingness to learn new skills and be part of an officiating team
* Excellent IT skills, and good verbal communication skills
We require an individual with fantastic communication skills who is genial and calm under pressure and has a high attention to detail as they will be part of the officiating team for all 1st XI county home and away games. A confident, friendly, flexible and numerate person, they must be professional, presentable and portray the high standards set by Somerset County Cricket Club.
Internally, they must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a wider team. They will have regular contact with all teams at the Club and so must buy into our strong one team ethos and camaraderie.
The successful candidate must be able to attend all 1st XI games both at home and away during the season.
