SCCC must ensure that it has the strongest possible strategic leadership in place and a competitive process to find and appoint a Chairperson to succeed Charles Clark has been initiated.

Job Description

The overarching role of the Chairperson is to provide clear strategic leadership and, alongside the CEO, present the aims and objectives to all stakeholders.

The immediate priorities will be to appoint a new CEO and to lead, drive and deliver a new governance initiative that will create a robust and lasting structure that will enable the Club to capitalise on future opportunities. This will, in turn, allow the development of strong working relationships with the ECB, Sport England and others.

The Chairperson is responsible for ensuring that the Club is run effectively and in accordance with the constitution and capitalises the skills and experience of the committee members. Alongside setting the strategic vision, the Chairperson will hold the CEO and the Executive team to account to ensure operational, financial and cricketing objectives are achieved. This will include the further development of SCCC’s position as the focal point for cricket excellence in the South West.

The Chairperson may from time to time be called upon to represent the organisation and sometimes be its spokesperson at, for example, functions or meetings.

In addition to the non-executive role, there will be occasions when the Chairperson will represent the Club, and vote, on certain executive level issues at the ECB.

The Person

Above all, the ideal candidate will have previous experience of being a Chairperson. They are likely to be managing a portfolio of NED roles of which at least one will be at Chairman level within a high-profile business. This experience will contain demonstrable success in strategic leadership.

Broad commercial experience is seen as the most valuable background, and knowledge of sport in general, or cricket in particular, would be a bonus. That said, given SCCC’s profile and membership, it is unlikely that someone without a good knowledge and interest in cricket would relish the responsibility that comes with this role. In addition to tangible experience, the ideal candidate will have the drive, determination and resilience to capitalise on the anticipated opportunities involved with, for example, the club’s ongoing relationship with the ECB.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate and applications are particularly encouraged from women, disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, as these groups are under-represented throughout professional cricket.
