Accountable to: Director of Cricket (for Cricket) and Chief Operating Officer (for Operations and Maintenance)
Responsible for: The ground staff team
Contract and hours: Full-time, permanent role
Somerset County Cricket Club is a highly successful and varied sporting organisation that hosts almost 50 days of First-Class cricket, numerous Conferences and Events throughout the year as well as playing an important role in the local community. We have 6,500 Members and crowds of 7,500 supporters for some matches.
In 2019, the Coopers Associates County Ground hosted three ICC Men’s World Cup matches following the highly successful International match held in 2017. The Ground is also utilised for many other events such as Concerts and Open-Air Cinema evenings.
The Role – Principle Responsibilities and Tasks
One of the country’s leading First-Class County Clubs, Somerset County Cricket Club are recruiting for an experienced grounds person in the role of Head Grounds Person.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity at the Club following the impending departure of our long-standing Groundsman who is relocating to Hampshire.
Somerset CCC is one of 18 first class counties which produces first class surfaces for both matches and practice facilities.
The role will be managing the maintenance of all areas within the County Ground and oversee the maintenance of Taunton Vale Sport Club ground. The role will also involve responsibility for putting in place an annual budget covering the ground maintenance requirements for the Club.
The successful applicant will ideally have First-Class Cricket experience and will have proven experience of leading and managing staff on a daily basis.
Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications based on IoG rates.
The Skills and Knowledge
Desirable qualifications for this position include
- Foundation Degree in Sports Turf Management; and
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 in spraying.
However, beyond qualifications enthusiasm, commitment and ability to work as a team member are equally important in the demanding environment where excellent results are required.
This is a busy and demanding role, so we are looking for someone who is hard working, organised committed and reliable. The successful candidate needs to be not only a great team player but also a good team leader, who leads by example with enthusiasm, motivation and a good sense of humour!
