2nd XI Trophy: Somerset v Surrey
Somerset won their Second XI trophy match against Surrey at Taunton Vale today by three wickets thanks to a good all round display.
After being asked to bat first Surrey got off to a flying start thanks to an opening partnership of 121 in 21.6 overs between Arun Harinath who hit 91 and Will Jacks who made 64.
After the opening pair were out only Euan Woods with 61 made any real impression before Surrey were all out for 280 off 50 overs.
The pick of the Somerset bowlers were Roelof van der Merwe who claimed four for 52 off his 1o overs, Max Waller who took three for 48, also off 10 and Dom Bess with two for 46 off his maximum allocation.
The Somerset response got off to a good start as Tom Banton and Johann Myburgh put on 96 before Banton went for 33 which came off 28 balls with five 4s and a six in the 12th over.
Skipper Peter Trego then joined Myburgh and the second wicket partnership added 70 before the opener was out for 89 off 71 balls with five 4s and a six.
Later in the innings Trego added 69 with Bess before the young all round was dismissed for 30.
The captain remained at the wicket until he had all but seen his side home before he was out for 69 which came off 91 balls with six 4s.
In the end it was left to Waller, unbeaten on 17, and Ben Green who was not out 15 to take Somerset to victory with four overs to spare.
