Anya Shrubsole: "Ashes fightback starts now"
Western Storm’s Anya Shrubsole has issued a rallying cry ahead of this week’s Ashes Test at the Cooper Associates county Ground.
England currently trail Australia by six points following the three Ashes ODIs, but with four points on offer for the winners of the Test Anya believes that the series is still very much alive.
“We’re obviously disappointed by the situation that we find ourselves in but there’s still a lot of cricket still to be played,” she said. “There are still 10 points available so it’s still anyone’s series.
“An Ashes Test is very special. These matches don’t come around too often and we’re all desperate to get out there and get the job done. It’s an honour to pull on the whites and play in an Ashes Test and all of us know what that means. Once you’re out there though it’s another game and it’s one we know we’ve got to win.
“We all love playing at Taunton and we get a great reception whenever we play there. The supporters are very knowledgeable and get right behind us. It’ll be a particularly special game for me given my links to Somerset and the South West, so hopefully we can give the fans something to cheer about.
“The beauty of the multi-format points series means that even though the ODIs went against us we are still in the series. We can win the Test and it’s back to 6-4, with the IT20s to come. We’ve been working really hard since Canterbury and our three-day warm-up at Millfield School couldn’t really have gone much better in terms of preparation. Hopefully we can take that on to Taunton and get back into the series.”
