CACG hosts Somerset Grounds Association event

A special event took place at the Cooper Associates County Ground on Saturday (March 12th) to celebrate excellence in the field of groundskeeping.

The Somerset Grounds Association event, which was supported by the Somerset Cricket Foundation, included the AGM, a pitch preparation workshop and a question & answer session.

30 groundspeople from across the South West were in attendance and were able to engage with each other and receive guidance on pitch preparation and other aspects of sports turf maintenance.

Following the event, SCCC Heads Groundsperson, Scott Hawkins said: “It was brilliant to host and support the volunteer groundspeople from across the club network in Somerset and Devon.

“It was good to be able to give an insight to what we do here at the Cooper Associates County Ground, allowing them to engage with other groundspeople and go back to their clubs with some new ideas and guidance.”

Jon Bendle, Managing Director of the Somerset Cricket Foundation, added: “The principle aim of the Somerset Grounds Association is to improve the quality of playing surfaces throughout the recreational game here in Somerset.

“To have the support of Scott and his team so close to the start of season at the Cooper Associates County Ground adds real value to our programme and has created a special day for the volunteers who attended.

“We look forward to further events throughout the year to support, educate and develop our clubs volunteers.”
