Charity pig racing raises over £1500 for Neonatal Unit

Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to be able to announce that we have helped to raise over £1500 for Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.

The money was raised thanks to the generosity of those who attended Christmas Party Nights last year.

Toy pig racing was introduced at our Party Nights in 2013 to help raise money for charity, and ever since it has become the highlight of each evening.

Every night, each table is asked if they would like to sponsor a pig for a minimum donation of £10. Once all of the tables have chosen their pigs they are lined up, switched on and the race begins!

The first pig across the dance floor is then declared the winner with the winning table getting a large festive cocktail bauble to enjoy.

Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) is a specialised ward for the treatment of premature and sick newborn babies. The unit cares for sick and preterm babies within Somerset.

SNICU is a local neonatal unit and is situated in the maternity building at Musgrove Park Hospital. The unit is divided into two different areas: Intensive and Special Care.

After the cheque presentation, Neonatal Unit Manager, Sue Fulker said: “We would like to thank everyone involved in the fund raising  for the Neonatal Unit at Somerset County Cricket Club.

“Charitable donations allow us to improve the facilities for parents who stay with their babies whilst they are receiving care on the Neonatal Unit.

“We are also able to provide funding for additional equipment to enhance the care and treatment of the babies.

“The staff and parents would like to extend their thanks to everyone involved in this fundraising.”

SCCC Catering General Manager, Sam Safe said: “We are delighted to have been able to support the Neonatal Unit at Musgrove. The staff there do an incredible job and we are really pleased that this money will help them deliver such an important service.

“I would also like to thank everyone who attended our Party Nights. It’s their generosity that enables donations like this to really make a difference.”
